A bit late to be talking about this, I know, but the only thing I resolved to do was to write a poem a day. So far, I’ve managed it.
I’m posting today’s poem for you to see. I hope you like it.

I have no idea what prompted me to write this one!
The Local Dog Show.
Big dogs, small dogs,
Running after ball dogs.
Black dogs, white dogs,
Ready for a fight dogs.
Tall dogs, short dogs,
And all kinds of sports dogs.
Good dogs, bad dogs,
Happy and sad dogs.
Short dogs, tall dogs,
Won’t come when you call dogs.
Skinny dogs, fat dogs,
This one and that dog.
All shapes and sizes
Hope to win some prizes.

Maria and Tom have bought an antique table for the old cottage they have bought. When they hear strange noises in the night that sound like crying, they worry their house is haunted, but the sounds seem to come from the table.
They set about trying to find what is causing the disturbances. The answer is stranger than either of them had thought.

I meant that as a compliment — it would make a good one. 🙂

Dogs are so much fun and tell us a lot about humanity, don’t they? I guess we love them because they love us so much, even when we don’t always deserve it. These lines capture the fun, variety and attraction dogs have for us and vice versa. I even wrote two whole books about our dog, Trixie (for middle elementary readers and children of all ages, even old folks like us!) 😉

You are right. Dogs are wonderful companions.
Sadly, we are not always such good companions for dogs. I watched a TV programme last night about illegal breeders. It was shocking and upsetting. The breeders were breeding dogs to get the most unusual characteristics they could. One had a head so big in comparison to it’s body it had to lay it on something frequently. Another had short legs and a large body. It could hardly walk. That’s not to mention the other things like breathing problems. (The dogs were bulldog types.)

I enjoyed your poem Vivienne, which made me smile and think of my own dog Apollo, a large lab/retriever. Good luck with your poetry writing. Kevin
