Mysterious fashions

I am probably an old person who does not understand the latest *or not so latest( fashions, but there are some that really confuse me. Here are a few below.

 Ripped jeans. What’s that all about? I know I’m no longer in the first flush of my youth, but to me it looks scruffy. It also says you can’t afford a new pair of jeans and are too lazy to mend your ripped ones. A friend’s daughter went to visit her boyfriend’s sister. After they had left, the sister’s daughter said ‘I like Auntie …… It’s a pity she’s so poor.’ The mother asked her what she meant and the child said, ‘Well, her jeans are all ripped. she obviously can’t afford a new pair.’
 Then there’s the trousers hanging off the bottoms of young men. This seems to be passing, but I still see a few of them. they look as though they’re little boys wearing their dad’s trousers. I saw one young man whose trousers were so low that he had to walk as though he had severe problems in order to keep them up.
 Then there are tattoos. They are fashionable at the moment, largely, I suspect, because of the large numbers of footballers who sport them. The so-called ‘sleeves’ look, to me, like dirty arms. I often wonder what these tattoos will look like when the owners are no longer young and fit, and are becoming wrinkly and flabby.
 So many people, not only the young, wear clothing unsuitable to the weather. I’ve seen young girls out in strappy tops when, although it’s been nominally summer, it’s not been warm. In fact occasionally it’s been cold and windy–temperatures below 15oC. Then there is the other end of the scale. People, often older people, wearing jackets and coats when it is above 30oC. I said not wonder some old fold die when it gets hot if they insist on wearing coats in the heat.

I’m sure I can think of other mysterious fashion quirks if I sat around thinking, but that will do for now.

Please leave a comment, either agreeing or disagreeing with me. And if you can explain why these things are attractive, all the better.

A Question

I don’t usually use WordPress as a means of asking a question, but I’ve just realised I don’t have a reblog button on my site.

I’ve made sure that the reblog button is checked on the setup page, but it’s still not there, and I suspect, never has been.

The forums are no help. The only ones that talk about it are people whose wordpress account is hosted by someone else. (Why would you do that?) WordPress does not add a reblog button for those, but my account is not hosted by someone else.

I can’t find anywhere on the forums to ask a question either, and you cannot contact anyone from WordPress directly. That is bad!

Does anyone out there know why I’ve not got this button even though the tick box is checked, and how I can get one?

7 unanswerable questions

question

There are some questions that require thinking about.

Does God Exist?
Why are we here?
Are we alone in the universe?
Such questions are difficult to answer, but the ones below are some that I would like to know the answers to. To me, they are as difficult to answer as the above.

Why do young people think it’s cool to walk around in torn jeans? It makes them look scruffy and as though they don’t care about their appearance.
Why do people find the use of the apostrophe so hard? Is it because they’ve been taught poorly? It didn’t used to be the case that we found apostrophes lurking before every ‘s’.
Why do some people think it’s acceptable to drop litter? Don’t they have any pride in their town/village/country? Do they drop their litter in the living-room at home?
Why can’t people choose to use inclusive language? There is no need to use the word ‘man.’ (Its capital letter to denote it was being used as the collective has disappeared.) There are plenty alternatives that do not invoke gender. For ‘man-made’, ‘artificial’ or ‘synthetic’ can be used. For the generic, ‘Man’ we can use ‘human’, ‘humanity’ or ‘people.’
When people pick up their doggy poo and put it in a bag, why do some of them then hang the bag on the nearest bush? Do they think it looks pretty.

Why do people walk around in dark clothes at night? Even in areas of street lighting there are many shadows, and it’s often difficult to see them. Especially cyclists. There used to be an advert on TV that said ‘Wear something white at night.’

On the subject of dark clothes, why are winter clothes always dark? Surely we need cheering up in the dark days of winter?
